My First Time Was Not All I Thought It’d Be

My first time!!
What motivated me to become a DIYer is my incessant need to CREATE. I am a creative soul, an artist. I’ve been drawing since I was a toddler; mom still has my very first stick figure framed in her office. The stick figure was a girl. She was made of blue crayon and had a number 9 for a nose. And it wasn’t just like a miniature, trite stick figure. This chick was like 2 feet tall! Go big or go home, baby!

As I grew up I was always creating in some form. Whether it was painting with acrylics on canvas, or drawing Beauty and the Beast characters and selling them to neighbors… Once I hit junior high and high school I drifted into interior design and changed my bedroom layout literally EVERY SINGLE DAY.

I live to create!!!

But once I became an adult putting my artistic skills to use slowly waned. And I became apathetic about creating. I took a job with The Body Shop and that rekindled my fire! I got to put make-up on pretty little faces 5 days a week. I loved my job! I was happy! I was creating!!!

Throughout the years I’d dibble in macrame-ing, baking, graphic designing, html-ing…

So that’s where the need for this blog came along.

Originally I wanted to stick to just painting furniture but once I gave it a try I realized it was so much more involved than anticipated.

Here’s a quick look at my first attempt at painting furniture:

I found this neat table at the new place I moved into (Thank You previous tenant).
The “bones” and curves of this table were just my style so I figured it’d be a keeper. But the previous owner painted it this putrid poopy maroon-ish color. Bleh.

No prob, Bob.

I sanded it. I used 3M medium grit block.
Wiped it down.
Primed it with Rust-oleum’s Primer {forgot to take a photo because I didn’t actually think I’d ever post this}

And painted it. I used Behr’s Oil-based semi-gloss enamel with an expensive ass Purdy brush that I’ve already ruined. *sad face*
Took me about 2 weeks from start to finish… I work VERY slowly.

I did not put a finish on it because the table will not get much wear and tear. It just sits in the living room waiting for my keys.

And that was it!

Have you got a painted furniture story to tell? What was your first time like?! Comments welcome =)
